Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress who works in television, film and the theatre. The most famous of her roles is Teri Joe, the flamboyant lawyer in her role on the Showtime program Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name after she married. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an aptitude for acting in her when she was a child and won an award for the best Actress prize at a Maryland high school contest. Contractor, a Mumbai-born Indian, who lived in Nigeria from the time she was just seven years old. She knew a great deal about the world's cultures, and traveled extensively at such a young stage. She attended boarding schools at the age of 7 until 9 in London. Later her family returned in Toronto (Canada) which is where they were raised for her entire life. Contractor had a great academic career at the University of Toronto Toronto while also training as a ballerina. She was a student at an Etobicoke School of the Arts an specialized arts public high school in which she was not just a dancer but also studied theater. Contractor aged 16 at the time she realized that performing would be her future career. She danced for a decade. She was awarded a full scholarship to attend the University of Toronto after graduating. The university offered her master's degree in theatre and double majored in sociology and psychology. Contractor was offered the lead part in Pericles following a brief time in University. The audition was held for the part in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and won. The 92 productions she performed received acclaim from Canadian theater critics. She was offered the opportunity to be a part of the Stratford Conservatory. It is a private institution that accepts just eight men and four woman to take a course in classical theatre. Contractor was eager to accept. Contractor received a guaranteed spot for the upcoming season of plays and landed the role of Hermia as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
